Introduction

Kayaking provides more than the means to travel across bodies of water; it empowers people to embed themselves deep within nature for a period of time to experience surreal moments of awe. Below are a few awe-inspiring kayaking locations from around the world.

Lake Kawaguchiko, Japan

Lake Kawaguchiko is one of the five famous Fuji Lakes that surround the base of Mt. Fuji. However, Kawaguchiko is by far the easiest to access and on clear days can provide a full reflection of Mt. Fuji atop the usually fog-covered lake’s surface. Kayaking through the fog can be just as sublime of an experience when Mt. Fuji can be seen protruding through the mist.

Lake Baikal, Russia

Lake Baikal is the world’s largest freshwater lake in terms of volume and is believed to be the deepest lake in the world. Roughly 70% of the fish in the lake are Baikal Oilfish that help keep the local seal and sturgeon populations well-fed. On a warmer day, a paddle across the chill, seemingly abysmal, 5,387ft deep portion of the lake is possible, and absolutely worth dealing with the cold for a few hours.

Crater Lake, Oregon

Another deep lake on the list, Crater Lake, reaches depths of nearly 2,000 ft. However, what’s truly amazing about Crater Lake is that it’s a sleeping volcano that was filled by rain and snow throughout the ages, creating a truly awe-inspiring experience for all; on and off the water… but preferably on.

Attabad Lake, Pakistan

Another unique location on the list is Attabad Lake. The clear blue water’s that make up the lake are actually a result of a natural landslide that occurred in 2010. In recent years, the local government has been stocking the lake with over 10,000 trout to create more recreational and employment opportunities in the area, making the lake a desirable location for kayak anglers as well.

Lake Tahoe, Nevada and California

Lake Tahoe is right behind Crater Lake in terms of depth, with the deepest point coming in around 1645ft deep; making it the second deepest freshwater lake in the United States. Lake Tahoe offer’s gorgeous waters with stunning clarity on clear-sky days. Additionally, the entire lake is panoramically surrounded with mountain ridges in all directions, ensuring you have a gorgeous view wherever you paddle.
